Since my GTRA is bone stock and my driving skill in the negative, I thought I might try NASA TTB as a learning experience. After reading through several pages of the TT rules on classification, I think I fried my brain.

Is anybody running TTB and would correspond with me off site on what all that stuff really means and what I can and can not do legally to my car without getting bumped into TTA? The interplay between TTB no point mods, point assessed mods and Appendix B are all spinning around, everything is getting dark, so dark, somebody help the boy!

Mike, as a NASA (Porsche, BMW, Audi, SVT in addition to a few private schools) instructor, I would encourage you to stay away from TT and focus on NASA's HPDE program. When you advance through the HPDE ranks to level 4, then and only then, would you be safe to be on the track with the TT'er who are very serious about their flying laps - you don't want to be in that mix if your skills are not up to it (for your safety and theirs). In the mean time you will have plenty of opportunity to learn all the nuances of TT rules by hanging out in the pits talking to fellow TT’ers

That's good advice. I had planned to complete the HPDE levels first, but I wanted to make changes to my car that would make sense if I were to go into TTB, probably next year. I don't want to waste time, effort and money on changes I later find are not allowable. I know the other choice in NASA TT is TTS. I think that would not be financially possible for me and another major step up in equipment and skill.

I was hoping someone was doing TTB in a GTRA could coach me as I go through the process of getting both the car and me ready. If it doesn't look like I can make NASA TT work, I can look at other options for DE and maybe have more options with the car. I want to end up with at least a competitive car. If the rules leave the car way behind dispite the driver, I'm not interested in restricting what I can do to the car.

Ask the same question on NASA Texas forum. Ken Brewer is the TT director and will work with you on the classification rules.
