2004 Sonata When do I change timing belt?

I just bought a 2004 Sonata with 50000 miles / 80000 km. I'm in need of a repair manual but was advised by my son to find out when this belt should be changed. Can anyone shed some light? How reliable are these 6 cylinder 2.7 engines? Thanks

Are you sure his has a belt or could it have a chain, that could make a difference I would think in how often it should be replaced.

It is a belt, and you should change it, along with the hydraulic tensioner at 60k miles.

Re: 2004 Sonata When do I change timing belt?

Thanks for the information John. I have been away from this site and just got back here today. This information on the timing belt is valuable to me. Hope it will help others. It is a six cylinder, would the engine have to be pulled for this job? I have about 50,000 miles on the car. If the belt breaks will it hurt the engine? Thanks

No, the motor doesn't have to be pulled to do the timing belt, and yes, if it breaks you will trash your motor.
