Re: 2001 blazer

Welcome to the site. I had this problem when I bought my truck. What happens is the part of the actuator that connects to the linkage that pops the glass breaks off. It can be opened from the inside but the rear tailgate panel has to come off. This presents a problem because there are two screws, one on each side that can't be accessed if the tailgate is closed. I got very lucky, mine were missing. Otherwise you have to peel the carpet back, there should be an access hole that you can get at the latch with a screw driver and pop it open. There is an updated actuator from GM for $75.

Re: 2001 blazer

The actuator looks the same but the plastic piece looks to be stronger than the original. You could also make a custom piece out of metal to do the same thing.

PS: Thanks for complement, would like to ditch the spare if I wanted to spend a small fortune on body work .
