2000 windstar power window issue
Have a 2000 Windstar and the driver side window would not go up or down. Opened the panel to check for loose wires, found nothing out of place. Can hear clicking when switch is depressed.
Without a wiring schematic I didn't feel comfortable trying to check the switches, so I just checked all the fuses and connections. All is good. The motor may have died. I put the door panel back on, but now the passenger window does not work, the radio does not work, and the power locks do not work. So, two questions; 1 Are these things in one bundle that a)may have come loose b)are connected to a module that has malfunctioned/died or c)just an odd coincidence? 2 Is there a way to test the window motor seperately (without using the switch)? Thanks for any help or ideas |

Re: 2000 windstar power window issue
Sounds like you need to recheck the fuses......I blew one while messing with my passenger side power window motor......
The fact that you have these other items not working is what leads me to think that a fues is blown. The electical layout is somewhat different for my '96 than your '99......so my information of what fuse powers what will likely not match up.

Re: 2000 windstar power window issue
On my passenger side window I pulled it out and took it apart and cleaned the motor where the brushes make contact with the motor and it works ok now. Still a little sluggish but still working..It stopped working before that..

Re: 2000 windstar power window issue
It definitely sounds like the motor is seized or the window is jammed. A seized motor is common. The clicking sound you hear is the relay, but rather than trying to run jumper wires to the motor, just test for voltage and ground at the wiring harness where you disconnect it from the motor. If voltage is present, the motor/window is stuck. This is a challenge as it's awkward and you have to power it with the removed master control switch. The polarity of the wiring depends on the switch direction selected.

Re: 2000 windstar power window issue
I will check the fuses and connections, and then test for voltage. I'm out of town right now, so it'll take a few days, but if your suggestions/tips don't solve the problem I'll let you know. Thanks so very much for the help!!
