Shifter (D)
Hi
I have a 96 lx. This might be a stupid question, but I’m wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of driving with the shifter on D gear right above the L gear instead of the (D) gear. Would it take more gas, bad for transmission?..anything Thanks |

Re: Shifter (D)
If you are in city traffic, stop and go, it won't hurt anything but if you are doing a lot of highway driving your mileage will suffer. The (D) is overdrive while D disables the overdrive and causes the engine to work harder.

Re: Shifter (D)
Driving with the lever in the non-overdrive D will save a lot of shifting from 3 to 4 and back -- when you are in urban driving. I never use the over-drive unless I will be on a highway going over 55 or so. I got tired of the up-down-up-down shifting, even before I had to rebuild the engine and tranny, after the tranny wore out at 192,000 miles.

Re: Shifter (D)
We would have known yours was automatic - from your mention of the D and the L on the console. The 5 speed cars just have a rubber boot surrounding the shifter lever, and a 1,2,3,4,5,r stamped on the top of the knob, showing the shift pattern.
