overhead console

94ts with the 3.8l I wish i had all the 96 options. I bought an overhead console at the scrapyard. Took it out myself with most of the wires intact, includind the temp. sensor in the front grill . When i returned a few weeks after to finish gathering the rest, the van was'nt there anymore!! Now i stucked with my dear console installed but not working! Were the wires connecting to some module or was it connected at the PCM ? Does anyone have the diagram for that? LMP,ARE YOU THERE!?

Re: overhead console

..no joy...my '93 did not have those options and they are not in my service manual either. Others on this forum probably have the service manuals for more recent years . CHeck e-bay...authentic GM service manuals are offered most of the time...
94 has the airbags that 93 did not have, but otherwise nboth are very similar; 96 though came with the 3.4 . The console picks up data from the speed sensor and probably computes fuel burn from the timing pulse of the injectors and rpm (I do not think there is a flow sensor like in aftermarket kits that were available for some time long ago) ...so several splices to perform...but I think all this can be reaped from the diagrams.
I CHecked http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/Pon...NG%20DIAGRAMS/ ; this is for '97 .... I do not see a specific diagram for the console.....but a "dataline" diagram that goes to the "driver information display" that makes me think this is a serial data bus...

Nope. 95 was the last year for the 3800 in the TS. That's too bad too. Because 96 was the last year of the plastic panels... Which makes 95 the best year for the TS.

Re: overhead console

An overhead console was an option offered in the 95 model year, not sure what differences there would be between that and 96 model. The 95 offers a compass display, as well as outside temp. The module for this is contained within the console itself, so with the exception of the remote temp sensor you should have everything. Looks like a 6 wire connector is used. If this sounds liike what you have now. let me know. I can try to post the pages out of the manual, or you can PM me and I will scan them for you.

Just wondering, I have the o/h console, but where is the temp sensor????? I would imagine its outside somewhere, but not in the engine compartment, because that would artificially raise the temp. Mine is always very accurate. I've had it down to -22F on one very cold morning last year!

Re: overhead console

It's in the grill,a little on the right when facing the grill. There is a connector at the sensor, and another one behind the windshield washer pot.

So you should be able to see it if you unscrew the grill?

Also, do all Transports have the wires installed, regardless of whether they have the overhead console?

..If you have scanned those pages, with your permission I could host them in my list www.avigex.ca/xport that is opened to all...

So if a van doesn't have it, you have to route the wire from the grill through the firewall, etc? That seems like a big hassle.

Re: overhead console

yellowfiero,
i'm sorry,i meant to say that the vans prior to 95 are not pre-wired.since that option started in 95,i can't say if the 95 & 96 that were delivered without the console are pre-wired for it . i'm sure they are. you sound very interested,i'll let you know in a week or so.As far as installing it ,it's no big job.You can leave the wires loose, secured with ty-raps or go from junction to junction in the original mains like i'm doing(bit long)

Yes, I'm interested - sounds like a fun project (if the wires are already there, of course!)

Re: overhead console

Is this what you are installing?

It shouldn't take much power at all to run it, the Compass should be self contained IIRC, but the Temp will require a Temp sensor ahead of the Condenser...

From this summer...
