I was running errands & went to several places. At my last stop I tried to back out of my parking spot & my car didn't respond to depressing of the accelerator. Upon pushing harder my car began to move but was also jumping, skipping, surging, i don't know how else to explain it. I checked the fluid it was perfect, kinda dark but didn't smell burnt. My check engine light was already on for code p0491. Which i believe isn't related & have had it cleared at the dealer once. The vehicle does this in every gear. The car starts up fine, sounds fine, I can shift into every gear & hear the gears engaging. Have not had any odd sounds. I don't want to pay for towing to 2 places, since i had it towed home. Does anyone know whats going on? At least this way i know if i should take it to a transmission shop or not. Thank you!

Re: 04 sebring runs fine, jumps when trying to accelerate
i'm not certain without actually seeing it but my first guess would be the tranny. i had a similar problem with the stratus i used to own and i had it looked at because automatic transmissions are the only thing on a car that i wont touch..lol... such a pain... anyway it turned out to be a very simple and cheap fix. It was a loose bolt in the transmission that was allowing play in the moving parts... get it fixed right away unless you want to shell out a ton of money for a new tranny... best of luck to you.
