For a dealer it sounds about right, but keep in mind that finding an honest transmission shop is harder than finding an honest dealer service department. At least with a dealer you know you ultimately have the manufacturer to lean on if they rip you off and you make enough noise. Not so with most tranny shops. Nevertheless, do massive research and find a good tranny shop and get the work done there and you will pay less. Are they offering you a rebuilt tranny or a newly manufactured one? (or a used one installed?) What company makes the tranny? Research their reputation as well.
Trannies of this vintage have no business failing at 94000 miles, therefore either the tranny is a lemon or the car was abused. I will say this, my in laws had a 99 GMC pickup truck that had a tranny fail after about 7 years and 60,000 miles or so. They raised a big stink and wrote the regional managers, etc. after first talking to the service department and asking what they could do to help pay for it (nothing.) They finally got GM to agree to pay half of the total repair (they had to replace the tranny.) I think it is worth pursuing. They will likely deny you because of the miles, but it can't hurt to try.
