question on AOD to kick down cable trans swap
I have a '92 Town Car. The engine went and I bought a good replacement, but I didnt do my research. I have the 4.6L 3 bolt and I bought a 2 bolt. I did get the transmission and everything engine related seems identical. The problem is the tranny. The AODE that was in my car won't bolt up and the AOD style that I got with my 2 bolt replacement is different. Is it an option to swap my car over to accept the kick down cable transmission without a horrendous amount of work? Any other options or suggestions? I'm sick, I have $1200 into this engine and I'd hate to have to start over and buy a 3 bolt.

Re: question on AOD to kick down cable trans swap
O boy sounds like a mess there. The 91-92 model was the cross over year where Ford switched to the newer style engine and trans, the three bolt starter version. Some of the 92's have the new, and some have the old style. Sounds like you bought the older model engine and trans. I don't see why you couldn't install engine and trans with the older setup. There is alway going to be some modifications with any engine swap, I don't care what it is. Some people might like argue that point, but those people are idiots. They have probably done 1 engine swap or none at all and think they are experts. I have done hundreds, and don't consider myself an expert in any way. I just know that some modifications are eminent. Off hand the trans linkage and computer are some things that might have to be changed for the older style. Sure is would be best to use the new style stuff, but I think it could be done easily with what you have already bought. Let me know if you have any more questions. You could e mail me direct at www. [email protected] I also have several good, tested engine computers if you need one. I would suggest try running it with the one you have first, and see if it acts up at all. Hope this info helps.
