so i hooked my tru-boost today, but it wont power on. im not sure if it is a wiring issue or what. i wasnt gonna use the wire for the warning light or the alarm one(orange and gray) which were listed as optional for use in the guide from AEM. so what i did was just wrap electric tape around the ends of them and let them hang out. then i grounded the black wire to a spot on the wire wall, and connected the 2 reds to power. the way i did this was to strip the ends of them and twist them together, then twist those in with an in-line 15amp fuse which was connected directly to the battery's negative terminal. why wont the gauge come on? im pressing both buttons for about 5 seconds like it says, but nothing happens

Re: tru-boost power problem
ok if im reading it right you connected your power to an inline fuse connected to the batterys negative termal right?? Well in order to get power you have to connect to a positive power source not a negative. I would recommend either straight to the battery or maybe one of the cig lighters positive wires.

Re: tru-boost power problem
i am retarded
. so i connected it to the positive side, but now its on all the time so i have to unplug the back of the gauge whenevr i get out. i think ill just run a switch, then i can flip that instead

Re: tru-boost power problem
hahaha it happens. and ya that would work to wire in a switch but if u just wire it to your cig light and it will turn off when u turn off the ignition.

Re: tru-boost power problem
ok, problem solved. i just wired into the 12v outlet power wire. now its only on when the car is. yay! next problem is orienting it. what kind of settings should i use to get around 14 psi? i ve been fiddling with it for a while, but i cant really figure it out

Re: tru-boost power problem
you made your own? thats pretty dam impressive. there are alot of settings, but only a few control output. disregarding the alarm, scramble boost, etc. which dont really affect this issue, there is: spring pressure for the waste gate, and 2 setting options(A/B) where you select the output duty cycle for the waste gate via percentages 10%-90%

Re: tru-boost power problem
lol well thanks man it was actually pretty easy and only costed 20 bux
but ok so if it goes by percentages then i would prolly try goin with around 50% duty cycle to start. The stock wastegate pressure on the 9b tdo4's is supposed to be around 9psi if 91-93 and about 12 psi for 94 and up but that is factoring in the stock boost solenoid and when that is overriddin with an aftermarket boost controller the stock pressure is only dependent on the wastgate spring pressure so 6 is about stock. i would try about 50% but u might want to start out a little bit lower just for saftey precausions. and about the unit of pressure measure i know that my greddy read more accurate in kpa (kilo pascals) rather than psi. And just to give you a base comparison 100kpa is about 14.7 psi. I hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

Re: tru-boost power problem
ok so after some more tinkering around withit, im beginning to wonder if i hooked it up right. on the h-fitting thing, the nipple closest to the firewall is for the waste gate right?

Re: tru-boost power problem
Well now i have to ask a couple of questions. First did u remove the stock boost solenoid? two if u did then you should have replaced the h split with a 3 split and ran the single to your aem boost solenoid then out of the solenoid to the vacuum line on the elbow of the y pipe. If this it too confusing to picture i can get a picture off of my greddy manual.

Re: tru-boost power problem
yes i removed the stock solenoid. instead of replacing the h though, i just put a vacuum cap on the spare nipple. i ran the AEM solenoid from the other nipple on the h fitting, and the nipple on the y pipe

Re: tru-boost power problem
ok well then u have it hooked up correctly. You might just have to tinker with it and keep testing different settings. Thats why i just went with a manual boost controller it it very simple you either have more boost or less boost.
