lost keys 96 318i

Can anyone suggest a good place I can get a new key for our 96 318i? Lost the keys and the local BMW shop wants $71 for a single key.

Yep, that's IS what you WILL pay for losing a key. Those keys are LASER cut. You'll have to supply him with the VIN & he'll reference it to get the correct key codes for your car. Spend the $$ to get a spare made. Not what you want to hear, I'm sure but that's life. NO ONE ELSE can get you a key.

Feels just like having Obama as President, doesn't it?

Well no luck so far on the keys, so paid the price today and ordered one from dealer. Not going to order a spare(yet) since we will most likely find the others later, and a slight chance this new key won't work....son adivsed me he had a different key on the ring for the glove box....dealer says no way unless either the ignition switch was changed or the glove box lock was changed. I guess I am screwed for now if it does not work, but I have most of the records and see no ignition work ever done. Guess I will know in about 48 hours.
