Mufflers or no mufflers?

Has anyone tried to run with no mufflers to see if the performace is any better?

I ran without mufflers for a while. We had a muffler shop make us a bypass tube to replace the muffler. I dont know if I noticed perf. gains but it sure sounded SWEET! Cooler inside too. Unfortunatley it was too load for several tracks that I go too so we put the mufflers back in.
