Are you attempting to empty the gas tank of fuel or replace the fuel pump?

This is the cheapest and easiest thing I can think of. Depending on how much fuel is in the tank, of course, you will need to find something to put the fuel in once you get it out. Google fuel extractor or check with advanced auto, pepboys or napa. Worse comes to worse, I am positive that Home Depot would have it.

If you can "kick start" the old pump-by pounding on gas tank-with fuel pump relay jumpered- then I usually just hook up old A/C refrigerant hoses (same thread and depressor) to the pressure test port and pump it directly into another vehicle,

If pump is completely dead- then I pull off the filler tube, either at the tank or filler pipe- and use a small plastic tubing and siphon the fuel into 6 gallon gas cans- takes longer but works well- no need to by a pump if it can easily be siphoned- (you have to be able to stick a tube into the tank either way)- tank has to be about 6 inches higher then the end of your siphoning tube- so jack stands or a lift is preferred....

This one thing I like about most Japanese cars, they have a drain plug on the gas tank. But even better than that they have a cut out area in the trunk above where the fuel pump/sending unit is, so you don't have to drain the tank anyway or even drop the tank to get to the fueel pump.

If the tank doesn't have much gas in it, I have just dropped the tank without draining it. It make it hard to hold it in place when you're reinstalling it though.
