Ok here in The U.S. we have all types of names for street customs., like rat-rods for the 20s and 30s rides lowriders for a rides presentation an so on. Now I have finaly four images of these realy wild looking japanese rides and I want to build some for my self, but I don't know what there called them. So if any of you can tell me what's this Japanese style of customization called? Even if one of you knows the styles name and can only type it in japanese that's OK it will work for me. Like the word "Gaijin"
Oh I know all the types of cars they us, so that no biggy. just need a name.![]() ![]() Thanks if any one car help. Oh and for you guys that may just make up a name, I hope I can google it. This info will help me put a title over my build once I start. Oh and one othere thing I wanted to ask. I hear this said a lot on the D1GP videos as a name or type of small cars that are some of the D1 cars, you know the AE86s' Ok I'm going to try and spell the word that the guy said on the DVD. Ha-chi-ro-koo I know this is not spelled right but this is what the guy in the DVD said: You see a lot of Ha-chi-ro-koos drifting this year. Can any one give me the right spelling. I have tryed to google it with no luck.

Re: Need Help in Identification of Wild Japanese street customs.
Well, Hatchiroku is はちろく. In English, it is 86, as in the Toyota AE86.

Re: Need Help in Identification of Wild Japanese street customs.
Thanks on the word "Hatchiroku" I was off by two letters the "T" and the "U". Once I went bask and looked over my Basic japanese words book I saw that I shoule have placed a "U" and not the "Oe's". Now that I have that name and when I build a AE86 Drift car I can use that word in the title to my project. That's one down and one more to go.
I just looked that word up and I was only off on one letter the "U" Hachiroku (AE86) Link: http://fushigijapan.wordpress.com/20...achiroku-ae86/ "Dōmo arigatō"

Re: Need Help in Identification of Wild Japanese street customs.
Well, technically speaking the 'T' is an English affectation, and doesn't really belong. In Katakana, it comes to ハチロク, which is probably more appropriate for the AE86. If you Google image search on ハチロク, you'll probably get plenty of pics of AE86s.
I'm still kind of working on basic Japanese myself.

Re: Need Help in Identification of Wild Japanese street customs.
Those are traditionally called 竹やり出っ歯 (Takeyari Deppa) where takeyari = bamboo spear and deppa = buckteeth. It's a sub category of 族車 (Zokusha, where zoku=family/faction, sha=car), the type of cars owned by 暴走族 (bosozoku = motorcycle / automobile gang). So, you can say zokusha for a broader meaning, or takeyari-deppa for more specific type ,like the ones in those photos.
Grachan is too nice of a word and inaccurate for this context, because it was a legitimate race category in the 70s and 80s, and the Grachan race cars are quite sophisticated at the time, while zokusha are cheaply-made and most-likely illegal. A stereotypical takeyari deppa owner is a high school dropout, working at a nearby gas station or repair shop for a minimum wedge, but somehow finds a project car for dirt cheap through his bosozoku friends, and use the shop's resources to customize the car with wood, sheet metal (sometimes cardboard, too) and spray cans. ![]() The style is outdated so is the word "takeyari-deppa." The word zokusha is still used even today. Both words sound quite derogatory, so when you talk to the zokusha owners, use "kasutamu ka-" instead. |

Re: Need Help in Identification of Wild Japanese street customs.
Lownslow your build is awesome man! [tup] An your word's "Hirofkd" and the use of them and there meaning, helps out a lot thanks you guys. On the type of [Grachan short for Grand champion cars] I thought that the shape of the cars looked like American IMSA "silhouette" racing cars of the late 70's, early 80's.
Here's a good old link with some of those car's in it. An let me point out to you to scroll down to the 5th an 6th car,12th an 13th car shots, to see those realy low a wide tires stick out from the sides of the car. Now back in the days here that in the South US guys us to do that to there cars here. I remember seeing a '85 Celica Supras done that way here. Oh that name will that is what the car was call or named here in the US. I know it's realy just a Celica XX '85 Celica/Supra US version: http://jdmcars.info/cars/supramk2.jpg http://www.randomhouseracing.com/Ima.../85Supra01.jpg '85 Celica XX Japan version: ![]() ![]() ![]() "Yep"! the use of wood and a lot of bonding products. To some these types of cars up there the poor mans cool looking custom cars. These images are for lownslow: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These car's are realy easy to build. I have some kits I'm going to try this style out on and here's my kit list. From Revell: Datsun 510,VW Golf II GTi,'81 Chey Citation. From AMT: '81 Datsun 280 ZX. Fujimi: Celica XX 2800GT, This is just a list of what I have not to try this out on. I dont realy want to buy any kit's right now as I have to mini. I just need wheels and I have found a place that has some of those deep dish wheels I need. If I misspelled any thing point it out as I'm at work right now and need to get back to work.

Re: Need Help in Identification of Wild Japanese street customs.
Hay guys I found two more I'm going to add to my build list. An Testors/Ital: '88 Isuzu Impulse, Tamiya: Toyota Celica 2000GTR, If I can start out good on these I may try to us this style on some S13s and some newer type cars., like the '98 Honda Civic or the old 300ZX. Oh how about a an '80's Mustang. Some of these ideas are just ideas and may not ever get built. But first I'm going to start on that old Testors/Ital: '88 Isuzu Impulse. Did you know that that kit has fujimi wheels in it. Any way wish me luck, once I start guys like Hirofkd, lownslow,MPWR,Tonioseven and even Emperor Hairy Monkey's help in the form of constructive criticism is realy help full from time to time.
Dōmo arigatō Konbanwa....
