No Headlights

Hey everyone,

I currently have all exterior lights working except my head lamps(also DRL IS OUT) on my 2002 S10 LS EXT CAB. A few months ago when I would drive at night my lights would flicker every now and then. Then it got to the point where at night if i turn on my truck it would take a few seconds for the lights to come on, and sometimes when driving they would shut off and come on again after a few seconds. Now they aren't working all my other lights are working, signals, brake, and back up. I have checked all fuses they are good. When I turn on the lights manually you can hear the circuit for the fuse under the hood clicking (fuse gets warm), and it gets warm so I know it's getting power there. I pulled off the front end clip and looked at the wires they all seem to be good. Anyone know of anything else I can be over looking? Please help me if yall can lol

Re: No Headlights

Hearing a "fuse" is not good-- it is probably a relay that is "arcing" inside- and can't carry the current- lights that come on late and flicker and go off etc- have a bad connection in the circuit- there is poor contact somewhere- and since you can hear it- you have located the problem--that is most of the battle- so why not replace that faulty component?

I just looked at the wiring schematic for your truck- It indeed uses relays for both the DRL and Headlamp circuits- so replace the warm relay....

Re: No Headlights

I have replaced all of the relay fuses for all the circuits, and still not lights. What shoudl be next replacing the whole relay box under the hood?

Re: No Headlights

Now you need to test to see where the "disconnect" is - before or after the headlamp relay- so jumper 12v to the light bulb side of the relay- see if lights come on- if not, then problem is between the fuse box and the headlamps- I don't suspect headlamps-or headlamp connections- because since both are inop- then it is highly unlikely both would fail at the same time.

If lights do light- then problem is between the relay and BCM connection- or it could be the headlamp switch is not inputting proper signal to the BCM- removal of the headlamp switch and inspection of its contacts and terminals would be advised.

Have you checked the HDLP SW fuse #7 (10-amp) in the intrument panel fuse block? the one inside the cab- (on driver's side of dash I believe)

Re: No Headlights

Installed new switch and lights are now working. Also I have a chime now if I leave the lights on... I havent had that for about a year, so maybe thats a sign that the switch is going bad.
