Gremlin in the dash

For the last 2 weeks my gages and lights on my dash board have been going crazy.... One minute on, the next minute off. My 98 Grand Caravan otherwise has been running fantastic.
A friend at work told me to replace my body control module. Is this true? Where is it located?

Thanks for your help, Ken

Re: Gremlin in the dash

Good chance it's the BCM. Good chance it's cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. Specifically the solder joints securing the connector to the board. An increasingly common problem. If you can induce or stop it by smacking the dash above the panel, it's a sure bet. There's a possibility you may get away with a BCM reset. Pull the IOD fuse in the fuse box next to the battery for 2-3 minutes.

The BCM is mounted on the back side of the junction block. That's Chrysler cryptic for the fuse panel at bottom left under the dash.

Re: Gremlin in the dash

-your particular model was notorious for instrument cluster failures
-to assume that your bcm is bad based on and erratic cluster is rash
-more times than not on that model it ends up being the cluster which is a module within itself and can short out internally and cause these issues...
-very rarely does the bcm go bad and only effect one function of the many that it controls...

Are you by any chance a Chrysler mechanic?
