2000 Ford Tauras w/ Engine Light On....

I have a ford tauras se (wagon), and in the last couple of days in the morning when i start my car and let it run at idle it shakes and surges for about ten seconds or more or untill i give it some gas, after that it calms down and runs great......just yesterday afternoon when I turned it on after work the check engine light came on.

Ive replenished all fluids except water in the radiator and still no joy. The car has about 100900 miles on it..

The shaking and surges only happen in the morning.Thanks for all inputs.

Many of the chain auto parts stores will read the diagnostics codes at no charge. Since you Check Engine Light is on, there should be a stored diagnostic code. I'd suggest you start by swinging by such a store and getting the codes read. Get the exact code, which should be in the format of P0123, and post back here. Often the chain parts store sales staff don't have experience in diagnosing cars. I suspect you'll find something related to the Idle Air Control (IAC).

Hey thanks for the advice, I took it to an Autozone and they ran the test, free of charge, and it brung up a code which dealt with my o2 sensers somewhere before and after the catalyct converter. Thanks again

Did you happen to get the exact codes? This is a VERY common scenario, a chain parts store pulls codes for "Lean condition bank 1" and the sales person says, "Oh, your oxygen sensors are bad." Not necessarily the case, the oxygen sensors may be working just fine and there's a lean condition that is being reported (properly) by the oxygen sensors.

If you have the exact code number(s), search the Taurus forum for them, chances are pretty good they've been addressed a time or two before.
