1995 Buick Lesabre fuel pump relay location

Is the fuel pump relay located in the maxi fuse box under the hood? If so, which one? Also, is there a difference between a fuel pump relay and a fuel pump fuse? If so what is the location of the fuse? Do I need to remove both? I have read the posts in the Lesabre and Park Avenue forums and I am still .

My goal to is to change the fuel filter and I would like also like to try and use a fuel injection cannister cleaner (like they use at the dealership).

Here is a pic from another post:

The maxi fuse box sort of looks like this but not quite. If I can get my digital camera to work I will post a pic.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am not sure if that's on the 92-95 models. It is on my 98 in that location.

I don't understand what you're wanting to do with the cannister.

he wants to disable the fuel pump so he can use the pressurized can of aerosole cleaner into the fuel rail...

and here's a backyard-mechanic way to relieve the pressure in the rail before servicing (of course after you open the gas cap, pull the relay and crank the engine a few times)

then instead of that gauge on the port, he'll introduce the cleaner canister instead:

LOL, watch this youtube vid link... but it's just that easy to do!

another type of kit allows you to inject a cleaner through the throttle body:

LOL... how old is this vid

or u can do it even cheaper using seafoam & some tubing:

here's one example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3s0n...eature=related

Thank you. Now I see where we're going.

My suggestion is to use a few tank fulls of a name brand premium gasoline only because it has more detergents in it supposedly and put in a 20 oz size can of Techron Fuel System cleaner available at Advance Auto or Meijers or Walmart. Walmart has only 12oz cans ($5.95) so use 1.5 cans for 18 gallons of fuel.

Let that clean the injectors. When fuel tank is low, repeat with one more tank of premium. Lots easier and it will surely clean things. I'd change the fuel filter AFTER I ran the Techron in case it moves stuff from the tank to the filter.

Looks lots cheaper and easier.

Re: 1995 Buick Lesabre fuel pump relay location

Thank you for the excellent responses and explanations. With all your help I was able to figure it out today. I managed to remove fuse #6 and it did shut down the car (I will tackle removing the relay later in the week).

What is the difference between the relay and fuse? In other vehicles, I have always removed the fuel pump relay before changing the fuel filter and the car/truck eventually "sputters" down.

Also, what happens when you remove the vacuum from the fuel pump regulator? I am assuming it will close it, correct?

Removing the pilot vacuum line from the FPR will close the regulator, causing the fuel pump to operate at full pressure (about 47-50- PSIG).

The relay will energize when the PCM sends a ground signal to the relay. When energized, the relay sends power to the fuel pump. If you pull the fuse, you have no power to the relay, therefore no power to the fuel pump. It's best to pull the fuse only!

The other consideration is the oil pressure switch. Many GMs have an auxiliary oil pressure switch which maintains power to the fuel pump even if the pump relay does not operate.

Good point Jeff, and yes just another reason to disable all circuit power by pulling the fuse.
