compatible sending units

Hello car nation,i have a 96 jimmy with a 4.3,vortec x block,i also have a 94 sonoma 4x4.I blew the motor in the sonoma and picked up the jimmy, but what i need to know is if the fuel sending unit from the sonoma will drop into the jimmy.Technically both vehicles are the same besides the for a few panels, any input would be greatly appreciated

Re: compatible sending units

The 94 is OBDI and the 96 is OBDII. Sensors, ECM/PCM/VCM, and wire harness are all different from 94 to 96. It can be done, but it involves a lot of part swapping.

Re: compatible sending units

NAPA shows the 96 Jimmy 4 door as part number DFP FG0030, the 96 Jimmy 2 door as part number DFP FG0029, and the 94 Sonoma as part number DFP HP10007 with 2.2l and DFP HP10007 for the 4.3w and DFP HP10007 for the 4.3z. I am not sure, but going off these numbers it would not appear to be a direct drop in and go. Though, you could always pull them both out and compare.
