2007 Base 2.4L

Well, my wife and I bought our 2007 G6 a couple of weeks ago after I totalled our '06 Corolla S. We checked our mileage after some mixed driving but not pushing it at all and was fairly disappointed by the MPG: 25. Understanding its a bigger engine than the 1.8L on the Corolla, I was expecting better mileage. Rides a lot better tho due to longer wheelbase but I wish it got better mileage. Any suggestions on ways to improve mileage? Car has 9000 miles on it. $11800 out the door so the price was great!!

Re: 2007 Base 2.4L

sorry to hear about your accident... and congrats on your new ride. 25 mpg mixed driving isn't bad considering and sounds pretty close to what most people get. One thing to keep in mind that the G6 is a heavier car then your last car the corolla. that will contribute to the variance in the mpg. Simple driving techniques always improve your mileage over any modification. Sounds as if you are already practicing them. You could always look into changing the air filter to a better air flowing one such as a K&N. I'm unsure if they have any computer tunes for the 2.4L engine or not. those would help improve your shift points giving you better gas mileage. I know that the computer tunes are available for the other engines in the G6 though. I know the car is fairly new but you could always run some fuel injector cleaner through it. You never know what you are pumping into it at those gas pumps now a days. I recommend trying seafoam, it's a little expensive but works very well.

Thanks for the input Art...I did install a K&N filter and I did run a bottle of hyperlube thru it. You are correct on the weight and you feel it in the ride...a lot better with the G6. BTW...the economy indicator was dead nuts on the mileage at the end of the tank. I set it at the fillup. First car with this display option on it. Hoe much is Seafoam a bottle? Just add a pint to the tank?

Re: 2007 Base 2.4L

No problem. The mileage on the DIC is normally correct the MPG on the DIC is normally wrong anywhere from .5 mpg up to 3-4 mpg. So if you haven't yet, I say calculate it at the pump you'll probably see a difference I know i always did. For the Seafoam... you can add it to the tank. You can also add it to other areas of the car but for your car it's not needed. A bottle of seafoam can range anywhere from 6 - 10 bucks depending where you live and what store you go to.
