01 Protoge sputtering and low power

I have an '01 Protoge 1.6l auto. My wife got into it the other day and didn't make it to the end of the block. The veh barely made it back. It was sputtering and almost dying at idle. I pulled a compression check, all cylinders are fine. I pulled the plug wires and found the coils misfiring, both of them at the exact same time. I was told that the crankshaft position sensor controls the coils. So I spent $107 to get a new one and have the same problem. What else could cause the coils to intermittenly not fire?

Re: 01 Protoge sputtering and low power

hafta wait till tomorrow to check them. The check engine light had not come on as of the first post. I went and ran the engine untill it did. Gonna have to wait till tomorrow for the auto parts store to open up to get the checker. It's probably only going to show a misfire code. I'll report back tomorrow, hopefully morning, depends on how much i drink tonight

Re: 01 Protoge sputtering and low power

Ok I ren a scan on the trouble codes and it only gave one. It says it's a random cylinder misfire(duh). Anyway I have a friend who has access to a full size diagnostic machine and he's going to run that on it later this week. Anyone have any ideas in the mean time.

It sounds like your fuel pumps about shot. Check your fuel pressure.
