Re: Escort Hazard
Assuming your 96 has the same setup as my 94: The Hazard switch assembly is held in place on the "multi-function switch" by two things. One is a phillips head screw on the side toward the door. The other is a little plastic 'foot' opposite to the screw, that fits under the edge of the adjoining 'wiper control assembly'. Its out of sight. With the screw removed you may be able to wiggle it free, as the wiper control thing is slightly flexible - or you may need to take the first two screws out of that. (There are 2 other screws to remove if you want to get the wiper control arm off too - see below for the reason for this.) I presume you can get this part in any junkyard, after removing the top of the clamshell.
The switch has two wires running down and feeding into a connector it shares with the wiper control wiring. Doesnt have its own connector. You could just cut the two wires and splice-in the replacement. I checked at www.rockauto.com: They dont sell the hazard switch by itself, but only as part of the 'multi-function switch assembly', which also includes the turn signal parts and the clock spring...... for over $350. !! I harvested one of the multi-function switch assemblies last month, including the clock spring. It requires pulling the steering wheel to get that off. Now I know why he insisted I pay $20 for it. |
