JDM SR20DEs come in both the 140 hp and 150 ps versions. The Primera engine comes with 150 ps and a tubualar exhaust manifold. The Primera engines come with 10:1 compression while the others (with cast iron manifold) are 9.5:1, same as USM engines. Since PS isn't the same as HP, I'd guess that half (or more) of the increased power comes from the tubular header. The half point of compression might make 1 or 2 hp.

I'm confused...??? what is PS and what is it rated for? what is it a measure of? Also i already have a header for the motor so i could care less about the exhaust manifold on the primera i just want it for the better compression. Thanks Blue93G20

PS is Pferdstarke, or German horsepower. It is measured slightly differently from HP. So a 150 PS engine makes a bit above 145 HP.

There is another thread here somewhere in which this is discussed in more detail.

My comment about the manifold is to let you know that the compression makes only a very minor contribution to the additional hp.

They are probably going to be your best deal actually. A local SE-R guy just replaced his blown motor with a primera one for under $500 shipped to his door. It came with the nice tubular header, but i'm not sure if it was the 10:1 motor or not. (unless all the ones with the tubular manifold are 10:1, then i guess it would have to be)

Where and who did he get his from. I found an SR20DE from Japan for 450 but they are not sure if the motor is the JDM one. If you could fine out where he got his from that would be great. E-mail me at [email protected]

The 150PS SR20DE engine has approximately 20 thou' more lift on the intake cam than the SR20De engine.

The phase 1 ('90 - '93.5) and phase 2 ('93.5 - '96) SR20DE (capital E, not lower case e) engine have the larger intake cam. This is taken from the Haynes manual for Primeras covering 1990 to 1999.

Not that I know of... I have relatives in Ohio and near Boston and Cape Cod, but their last name is different. I know my dad used to live near there when he was younger, but i'm not exactly sure where, and that was probably a good 25-30 years ago too.

Well.......

Most of the JDM engines are Primera engines (150PS version). I would pay a small premium for the Primera engine, but if I had to replace the engine and could get a 9.5:1 engine for $100 less, I'd get that and put the $100 towards something that will make a lot more power than a half point of compression (good for about 1.5 hp).
