2000 Chevy Impala headlight aiming?

Hi all, I`m new on this site. I have a 2000 Impala that I got from a "used" car dealer. It drove ok on the test drive during the day, but at night the headlights are way too low. I found out the car had been wrecked at some point. With the high beams on, its about where the low beams should be and with the low beams, the driver side points to the ground. Is there seperate adjustments for the high and low beams? With the highs on, the are about equal heighth. I`ve heard I may need a new headlight assembly on the driver side, maybe something broke inside it? Any help would be appreciated. I cant drive the car at night because of this, at least not very far. Thanks in advance.

Pop the hood, and on the headlight between the High and low beams, there is a star head screw on the top. The reflector for the highs and lows are one piece, so only one adjuster screw on each light.

Ok, thanks. So if the low beam is pointing down to the ground on the driver side and not the passenger side, something must be broke inside? I`ll give it a look in the light and see if I can see anything. Thanks again.

Oh no, I meant left High & low are tied together and the right High & low are tied together. If you have your left high beam aiming in the sky, and the lowbeam on that side is aiming at the ground, THEN you have a problem.

You'll see one adjuster screw on each headlight assymbly

did you replace eather one of the bulbs before this happened? if so you may not have the bulb in the light in right. also you may see a level when you raise hood above the lights because there putting levels there now.

Re: 2000 Chevy Impala headlight aiming?

The high beams shine about where the low beams usually are on both sides. They both need to be adjusted up to where they should be. Just the driver side low beam is shining on the ground. Maybe a bent reflector over the bulb? I`m finding alot of problems with this car since I got it back just before Thanksgiving. I had to replace the wheel bearing on the pass. side, PS pump, both front steel rims and both rear lateral rods (adjustable), thermostat so far. It still needs an alignment and tires. It runs great, rides nice and I like the car. Its got 126k on it with plenty of power with the 3.4L. Gas mileage is around 19-20 but I dont drive it very far. Thanks again.

Scrapper...I havent replaced the bulb in it. I took it out to see if it was in crooked and it fit in the way it should. I dont think this has a level on it. I`ll check tomorrow and see what I can find. Thanks.

Impala has no Levels. And only has a verticle adjustment screw also. Also highs don't give you a true idea of how your lights are adjusted due to how they direct the light, so The headlights probably fine, just needs to be adjusted.
