ABS Light?

I have a 2000 Z71 with over 110,000 miles. Just today while driving the ABS light came on and stayed on. When I returned home I hooked up my scanner but there were no DTC's listed. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: ABS Light?

Update: Okay, since my last posting, I was heading out again and notice an intermittent squeal coming from under the truck. Luckily I wasn't quite to the end of my street so I turned around and crawled home at about 10 mph. Once there I put the truck up on a jack and found about an inch of wiggle in the front passenger side wheel. So it turns out it's the wheel bearing and I'm assuming that's what triggered my ABS light.

My new question would be: Is it just the bearing that get's replaced or is it the whole Bearing/Hub assmbly? And, if I'm replacing the passenger side should I go ahead and replace the other side as well?

Re: ABS Light?

Definitely replace both while you're there.

since the ABS Lt was on I suspect that the speed sensor on that side will need replacing...before installing the rotor spin the hub and measure for a voltage of 300-500MV ac....at the sensor connector,,,,then compare with the good side if lower than 300mv this would indicate problems ...

Re: ABS Light?

This is a common problem on the Chevy/GMC truck platforms. I had the same issue with my 03 Suburban.

The fix is hard to accept because it is so simple.

There is a ground wire that is bolted to the top rear of the engine block on the passenger side. The ground connection becomes compromised due to rust, dirt or grease over time.

Take off the engine cover, reach back to locate where the bolted connection is and twist the lug to ensure the ground is firm. It may be necessary to unbolt the connection and clean the surfaces and re-install.

This should solve your ABS dash light problem. It also resolves many other strange electrical issues owners have been having with the pickups and SUVs.

It sounds unlikely to be the fix but try it before tossing money at the dealer or mechanic. If it works you can toss the money to me.

Re: ABS Light?

My ABS light and parking brake light both came on and stayed on while driving. Took it to local shop and they ran the codes. They re-grounded the wire as in the previous post and started the truck to find out this did nothing. They found out that it is the ABS module that is bad.
