02 Passat V6 4 Motion - - - low speed missing

Symptoms, missing during low speed gentle acceleration. Does not occur from standstill, does not occur if acceleration is greater and auto changes down to lower gear. Seems to occur ONLY if the auto does not shift down, until the speed picks up a bit [with sluggish acceleration].

No faults found on diagnostic check. MAF replaced a couple of years ago, but different symptoms this time. Seems like auto does not select lower gear for acceleration and computer does not adjust firing conditions properly.

A faulty sensor somewhere ? Suggestions please.

Re: 02 Passat V6 4 Motion - - - low speed missing

I read on another Forum about this vacuum operated valve sticking, the one located right beneath the coil pack. Checked mine and yes it seemed to be stiff to move too. Lubricated that so it rotates smoothly. I wonder if that was the cause of the misfire.

Haven't had a chance to properly road test yet, so we will see if it is cured.

What is the purpose of this valve, and how would it affect engine tuning ?
