Questions about where to buy 6bolt...
Hello,
Its been about 2 years but Im finally at a point where I can start rebuilding a 6 bolt for my car! Ive been looking around online and have been a bit skeptical about prices, quality, etc. Any suggestions on buying a used 6 bolt and what to look for if I find one locally? This will be swapped into a 95 GST, I cant wait!.

I found a 420a block with all internals for about $150. I had to drive about 50 miles to get it, but was better than shipping. All you really have to look for is that there's no holes in the block. That's the most obvious. But look at the cylinder walls also and check for scratches. If there was no oil flowing, the pistons could have scratch the walls and the block would have to be bored. If the block was already bored, you may not be able to do it again.

I dont really mind paying shipping costs if I know the engine Im getting is in a good enough condition where it doenst need to be bored, any holes, etc...

Re: Questions about where to buy 6bolt...
Welcome back! I remember you. Haven't seen your face around here in a long time.
Have you checked your local junkyards for a motor? We had a sweet junkyard here that had about 20 DSMs in it, but sadly they have been picked clear down to nothing the last time I went to visit it. You may find one locally though that has some spare 6 bolts laying around. Another place to keep an open eye on would be ebay. I've seen several 6 bolts go for a decent price on there before. Only problem with that usually is shipping costs... What's your plans for this motor? Stock rebuild or something more?

Re: Questions about where to buy 6bolt...
Thanks for the welcome back
. Im planning on going with an 16g turbo at most for now, need to start up adding up costs and what not. I think ill go out and spend a bit more on the internals though for future.

Re: Questions about where to buy 6bolt...
I'm an idiot. Never finished my post.
Check on Craigslist. I looked around and searched and found nothing. I put up a WTB ad on there (1st time ever using it) and I got 3 responses about local blocks. Then after the questions, pics, distance and pricing... I found the one I liked best.

I too didnt finish my post...I think im going to start with what I had prior to the car breaking down, basically a 14b but with built internals. I remember seeing a 6bolt swap kit on SBR.com...200-300 IIRC. Would I be better off just getting the package from them or piecing it together. I think the expensive part from it was the CAM sensor. Its been like 3 years since Ive been researching DSMs so correct me if Im wrong please .

Re: Questions about where to buy 6bolt...
I don't really see what you would need to buy from slowboy to swap a 6 bolt into a 2g... The only thing I had made was the plug adapter for the cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor. I'm trying to remember the name of the company I got it from... I'm very braindead today... Other than that, anything I needed to change I was able to do myself without buying extra parts. As long as you have everything from your 7 bolt and everything from a 6 bolt you should be able to piece it together yourself. IIRC, I posted up the differences in my build thread between the 7 bolt and 6 bolt in a 2g... Although none of my pictures are online anymore.
Maybe I should fix that today...
