2001 GMC Yukon XL 1500 5.3L
My problem is at initial startup of the day, the engine idles up and down and occasionally shuts off. I have had it tested and the code (cant remember the number) said that the Mass Air Flow was too lean. I have changed the MAF Sensor to no avail. I have recharged the K&N air filter and changed the fuel filter all to no avail. I have also tuned it up w/ new plugs and wires. I am confused!!!! I have two mechanics telling me the opposite... One says that the intake gaskets and O-rings need to be replaced and the other says not. So what is your opinion? This is driving me crazy!!

Re: 2001 GMC Yukon XL 1500 5.3L
If it says it too lean. You need to check for a vacuum leak. A good tech would read the O2 readings to make sure they switch and use some carb clean to spray around the intake to see if it is leaking before just replacing parts.

I have also seen K&N filters causing MAFS failure due to the oil contaiminating it.

I also have a 2001 GMC Yukon 5.3L and I had problems with poor idle and the A/C blowing warm when idle is below 250 rpms. The trick with the Carb cleaner in the intake worked like a charm. A $5.00 repair. Thanks Guys.
