Instruction to replace EGR Valve/Connector

I'm looking for some help on how to replace an EGR Valve and Connector. I have an '03 LS V8 and have had nearly every coil replaced by the dealer under warranty. Now, I'm getting two new codes. I've seen a lot of posts about the codes and that it is in fact the EGR Valve just like the dealer told me it was, but I'm looking to see if this is a do it yourself job or not. The codes I'm getting are P0406 and P0108.

Anyone have a site to help me out? I haven't even gotten under the hood to start looking for the EGR yet. I just got home from the dealer and started looking here. Any instruction is very appreciated.

The P0108 is defined as "BARO/MAP Sensor High Voltage Detected." It appears the MAP sensor is part of the EGR transducer.

For the P0406, that related to the EGR system, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's the valve. Or, the valve could be carboned up. Once you remove the appearance cover on top of the engine, the EGR valve will be right up top and removal should be pretty intuitive. I'd start by removing and cleaning it. It's supposed to be a 0.4 hour job, start to finish.

I don't think the EGR valve itself is the likely culprit but rather the EGR transducer. I'm not sure if you can get one without the other though. It appears the "EGR valve" sells for around $150 which would seem about right to include the transducer.

Ahh. Thanks for the additional info. The invoice or the tech didn't mention that. They both just said the valve was the issue. I'll start by cleaning it and then replace it if that doesn't work. I don't mind the $150 to try to fix it. It was $550 at the shop for them to do it. They charge 1 hour minimum I'm sure. And at $94/hr they have a hell of mark up on the parts.

I have been so busy lately, that I kept putting it off, but tonight I installed a new EGR Valve. I picked it up at Napa for $129. It was $169 at Autozone. I replaced just the EGR unit with the electronics on top of the metal valve. I still have the check engine light showing and the car still runs roughly the same as it did with the old EGR. I think I'll take it in and double check the codes again.

Think it's coming from the wiring harness or hoses?

I got to thinking about the electronics on the LS and I've read that they are very sensitive, so I decided to disconnect the battery again and try to have the computer reset. I disconnected the negative terminal and let the car sit for about 5 minutes. I reattached the negative cable and started the car. No more engine light staring me in the face. Looks like everything was fixed from the computer resetting.

I appreciate the help and info from everyone on the forums. Made a great difference to a amatuer like me. I've never had a problem wrenching on my Harley or any of my other toys, but I've never had the knowledge to work on my cars. At least now, I have the desire to gain that knowledge and the next time something goes wrong, I'll be the first one to look for a solution instead of the dealership.

I finally got the time to have everything fixed. I replaced the EGR valve. The engine light is gone and i won't miss it. Ordered the part from Rockauto.com
