jetta 1.8t

i have a 2003 jetta 1.8t auto and want to make it a little more peppy was thinking about chiping and maybe a bov but am unsure about prices or what i should do first.

do all the maintenence on the car, timing belt, water pump, 80k service ect before adding aftermarket parts.
