Re: 2003 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 L fuel mileage

There was a thread posted on here somewhere. ( sorry, I can't remember what it's titled) But there was several people saying they were averaging between 12 - 14 mpg. If you can get by with a little less truck I would suggest a 1500HD. I just picked up an '02 crew cab the other week with the 6.0 in it and I'm getting just over 17mpg on the highway after installing new plugs. City and highway combined I'm at about 14.5 average. Not quite built as heavy as a 2500 but It'll work almost as hard.

On my '03 2500HD Crew Cab, I'm getting 14 - 15 m.p.g. with about 50/50 highway/city daily driving, but I drive like a grandma.

Re: 2003 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 L fuel mileage

I have a 2004 2500 crew cab with 6.0, averaging 13.1MPG over the 110k miles driven so far.
My brother in law has an '05 extened cab longbed 6.0 and gets 14.5MPG. He is easier on the go pedal than I am.

I would suggest replacing plugs and wires. At 90,000 they are due.

What's the main difference between a 1500HD and a 2500HD ?

Re: 2003 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 L fuel mileage

the main difference is from the front bumper to directly above the rear axle, completely 3/4 ton frame, drivetrain, susp, brakes and all. from the rear bumper to directly above the rear axle the frame is notched and sized down to a 1/2 ton frame. the reason being is to have the whole 1/2 ton crew sit lower and also to qualify for 1/2 ton insurance not 3/4. like i said the complete drive train and all is identical to 3/4 ton, and all parts at the parts retailer need to be looked up as if were a 3/4 ton truck. all towing and payload is within just a couple hundred pounds of the 2500hd, but thousands greater than a standard 1500. great truck for towing, i have a 10k lb 5th wheel i tow everywhere and a 8500gvw car hauler too. standard 1500 cannot tow these.
