Re: harmonic balancer

You will have to have a Puller ( Prefer a 3300-3800 Harmonic Balancer Puller )

You will have to remove the Crank Bolt.. Takes a lot of force...

The Balancer is a Press fit of sorts and will not just slip off, thats where the Puller comes in..

Might also be a good time to invest in a new Crank sensor as well..

Re: harmonic balancer

rent a puller from auto zone or go to sears remove pass side tire remove splash sheild you need impact wrench or use a braker bar and try hitting it with a hammer to brake the bolt lose use puller to pull it off your done put it back together but it up to you if you want to replace crank sensor mine had 145000 before it went bad

Re: harmonic balancer

Take a look at this website:

http://mykidz.net/GTP/CrankPosSensor.shtml

I did this in an Autozone parking lot and it was an absolute nightmare (EVERYBODY has an opinion!). Other than the people, the thing that held me up was that the puller kit I rented there (even the one I later bought) did not have the correct bolts for the harmonic balancer. Before you take anything apart, go buy 3 - 1/4" X 3" 28 NF (National Fine) bolts. Autozone didn't carry these at all! So, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get a few of those.

Good luck!

Re: harmonic balancer

Nice pictures. This should help some folks out more than the generic instructions in a Chilton's.

Re: harmonic balancer

Yes, it is a good writeup. The starter trick helped me get the harmonic balancer bolt off without too much trouble.
