Mass air flow?

I'm getting code: PO102 Mass air flow (MAF) sensor circuit - low frequency detected.

I have searched the manual over but cannot find anything that mentions this other than the error code list. What is it? & where is it? & how do your replace/fix it?

Also, what might cause the idle to intermitantly climb up to 2500-3000 and just stay there on it's own? it's still doing this but only every so often, there is no pattern to it, and i have changed the vacuum lines (all on top of the engine, did I miss some somewhere?) and it's still doing it.

Re: Mass air flow?

Always give year and make and engine and mileage.
As the code says MAF sensor circuit low.
Could be one of many problems.

First check the air intake hoses and plugins and connections on all other sensors.
Cleaning MAF sensor is also a first step.
Clear code and see if it comes back.
Any other codes?

To repair you will need some good repair infor and a engine capable scanner.
Factory repair manual or.

Has the repair flow charts for codes.
Good Luck

Re: Mass air flow?

Sorry, vehicle info is:

96 S-10 Ext cab 2wd, 4.3L, W engine, 67k miles.

Where is the MAF located or what is it near, and what does it look like, I can't find anything on it in my manual (Hayes)

MAF Mass Air Flow is located between the tbi and air filter inline.
