97 Regal Leaky intake manifold gaskets

My Buick has the "low coolant light" light, which been on/off for couple of months now. I have to add the dexcool antifreeze and the light goes away for a while then comes back... Also noticed my heat is not as warm as it used to be (even with the thermostat changed). Mechanic determined the coolant has been leaking through the intake manifold gaskets, upper and lower. I don't want to leave this for too long as I heard it can cause engine damage..

I read online of alot of complaints by GM owners who have similar problems with leaky intake manifold gaskets (made of plastic) and a class action law suit filed against the company. But GM will not cover the cost of those repairs also on 3.1 and 3.4L engines.

My question is when the new gaskets are installed, will this problem of coolant and oil loss reoccur again? Are the new gaskets they use of better quality?
I just want to stop the leaks and not be embarrased with leaking oil after I park the car lol...The Regal currently has 174kms and is a 97.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions....Great forum, very helpful!

Re: 97 Regal Leaky intake manifold gaskets

Once the gaskets are replaced you shouldn't have any further problems. The gaskets originally put on your car by GM were not up to the task they were designed for. The gaskets that you will replace the originals with are better quality. I also recommend that you flush the cooling system and replace the coolant with Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze. This is much better than the Dex and won't cause any issues. You shouldn't have any issues with coolant leaking from the gaskets once they are replaced.

As for the oil leaks I would check the valve cover gaskets and replace them too. The will often leak especially with the mileage you indicate and that is probably where the oil is coming from. Good Luck!
