Transmission Fluid Question ..

Guys,

I have a 99 3.8 liter Winny. I wanted to put the best transmision fluid in as possible for I have a shudder problem with the tranny when the weather gets hotter. From everything I've read, it seems like the Mobil 1 Mercron V synthetic is the Best. Is it now called something else ? I see some saying use the Mobil 1 multi-vehicle ATF fluid for it superceds the Mobil 1 Mercron V synthetic.

Thanks,

AJ

Re: Transmission Fluid Question ..

I used the old version of the Mobil 1 multivehicle and it was fine....though it was not Mercon V.....just Mercon...which is NOT right for your application.
I expect that the new version is just as good.......is now listed for Mercon V.
Make SURE to read the bottles to make sure that you have the newer Mercon V version.......

Right now I have Redline D4 ATF in mine....which also seems to be doing very well.
The D4 is the version of Redline that is the most correct for our Windstars.

As a side note....make sure that your radiator fans are working on low speed.
With the A/C on....the radiator fans should come on and STAY on.
If they do not......you might have a broken radiator fan dropping resistor.
I have pictures that show this in the pictures that the link in my signature takes you to.
Having the radiator fans working whenever the A/C is on will help to keep your transmission cooler (and not overheat in stop and go traffic).
My dropping resistor broke......easy to replace.

You will want to solve the shudder as from what I have read.....it causes extra heat and wear......which leads to more tranny trouble.
