DIC Problem

The DIC lights in my 97 Grand Prix GT (104k) sometimes are brighter than other times when I am driving. However tonight right before I was about to turn off my car, the DIC center lights started blinking randomly rapidly. This was the first time they ever started to blink like that. When I restarted my car the DIC was fine, anyone know why they were blinking an hour earlier?

No, it only did it the one time. It didn't do it yesterday when I drove it.

The dic brightness is changing a few times per trip from medium to very bright?

Re: DIC Problem

is it possibly a bad connection at one of the bulbs? Mine was doing that too, and when I would tap the top of my dash, the bulbs would all light and come on as normal.

Replacement of all the bulbs cured my problem.

Re: DIC Problem

Might also be a good time to check the B+ terminal on the battery to ensure good conductivity/no corrosion.

Do you still have your original ignition switch? A lot of times when the DIC starts acting up that may be the first signs of an ignition switch going bad. The 12 volt supply is being affected due to carbon buildup on the electrical contacts. The carbon acts like a resistor or causes arcing. As it gets worse over time you may see other accessories start acting up like the headlights, climate control, cruise control, etc.

I had the same issue about 4 years ago. I remove the ignition switch, took it apart and cleaned the contacts. The DIC has not acted up since.
