There are 2 Positive wires that go into the radio to turn it on and 2 negitive (antenna grounds the radio and usually there is a black wire attached to radio to ground)

1 Positive - 12 volt positive always live straight to battery (for memory)
1 Positive - when you turn the key to Acc or run comes live to turn on radio.

Is the radio the only thing that doesnt turn on? if there are other things not working along with radio i would think your ign. switch is bad. if the radio is the only thing i would think the radio may be bad.

I have had the same problem with my 96 (it’s the same darn car) You can remove the radio using 4 nails in the 4 holes in the face plate. This releases 4 springs and the entire unit pops out. I cleaned the plugs and re installed the radio. It has worked fine for 18 months and I live on a dirt road with 2 kids.

Does it come off and on when moving the shifter from park or neutral into gear? If it does, replace the transmission range sensor on the transaxle.
