Coolant Leak

I have a 2003 2500HD with 6.0 Lt and my low coolant indicator came on today, looks like it's leaking from the right side of the engine somewhere(looking from the bottom) can't see anything from the top. Just wondering if anyone has had a leak similar to this.

Thanks

Re: Coolant Leak

Have in the neighborhood of 125-140k miles on it? First thing I would check would be the intake manifold gasket.

Re: Coolant Leak

If its leaking externally you should be able to track it down. Might have to remove a panel or two, or use a mirror, but you should be able to find it. The areas I would suspect would be water pump, intake or hoses. Is it a constant leak, or only/worse when warm, only/worse when cold?

Re: Coolant Leak

Coolant does not run through the intake on Gen III engines.

Re: Coolant Leak

Finally got a chance to look at the truck (holidays). It is the water pump gasket, next question how hard is it replace the gasket?
Looks like there is 6 ? bolts. What else needs to be taken off. Any help before i do this would be great, looks like a Saturday morning job.
Thanks

Re: Coolant Leak

My labor guide puts the water pump at 1.9 - 2.3 hours.
Make sure it is the gasket and not the weep hole.
There is a how to listed at autozone, with pictures. http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId...249073#hd1-1-2

Re: Coolant Leak

The job was easy to do took about 2.5 hrs, these gaskets must be a common problem. I had to go to 3 parts stores before io got a set.
