'06 cvpi rear end...
what is this and how in da *ahem* does it come out?? This is inside of the rear end and is keeping me from getting the axles out so I can R&R the wheel/axle seal.

That is the lock for the limited slip rear end you have. You can put vice grips on it and it will pull out.

One other thing to try. Your axle may be hitting on the wheel speed sensor. These need to be either removed, or the bolt loosened and the sensor pulled back in fr enough to allow the axle to go in enough to remove the clips.That is when the "S" clip will come out if needed. Sorry for not thinking more before responding.
