Possible Return To Usa?

I truly don't see Peugeot coming back to the U.S. any time soon, not with the way France screwed the U.S. in the U.N. negotiations over Iraq. Do any of you think that some kind of... "economic sanction" is bound to ruin French automakers plans to come back to the U.S.? If anything, the average customer will most likely stay away from anything "French" that is sold in the U.S. On the other hand, if Peugeot does not come back to the U.S., my 505 will remain an exotic item for years to come, as opposed to being an old piece of sh-- compared to the new Peugeot.

The turn of events is indeed very unfortunate- the rednecks with the blind patriotism to the American flag will continue to see France as some form of enemy- hence the retur of Peugeot to the USA looks more and more delayed

Hello Sulaco and welcome on this forum. I'm French and I don't think this crisis is very serious. French are not for this war, American are for, but that's not a big deal... And we stay friends.

However, for Peugeot, if they come back in the States, it won't be before 2005, so this crisis will disappear as quick as it appeared and won't have consequences on the PSA decision to come back in the USA.
And (it's unofficial) Peugeot would come back in 2006 or 2007 with the new 407 then the 607. Note : the new 607 (restyled) and the 407 are on the US norms...

Your 505 is very nice, here in France, we don't see any more "nice" 505, they are all old but not enough to be collectable

But Jean-Martin Folz (CEO of PSA Peugeot-Citroën) told that Peugeot would surely come back in North America, but he didn't say when.
And that's logical as PSA sells everywhere except there (Japan, Asia, Australia, Africa, Russia, Europe, South America, etc.).

Thank you for the valuable info. I totally agree with the U.N. issue, and I can tell you that the average American is deluded and close minded, they don't know what the government is doing or why they're really doing it.

I think this war in Iraq should be avoided, but what do you want, it's like that, we can't do anything, the worst thing is that Bush didn't care about the UN decision, and that's severe because the UN exist to maintain the peace in our world.

For Peugeot, I'd be interested to know why you bought this car. I saw that some old Peugeot have been broken in the USA by people for the war (and very angry about French )... that's a pity, but it's a very minority who does this kind of things.

Alfa Romeo will come back in the USA ! Cool ! And there are already Alfas there sold under the name Autodelta (the 166, GTV and Spider are concerned), but there is not a good network.
I love this make to and I'm expecting to buy a 156 (I can post pics of some cars if you don't know it ).

I bought the 505 for sentimental reasons, Peugeot is very popular in Argentina, where I'm from. I always liked this car because of its character, that serious look 505s have and very few have been able to duplicate. I think the 505 has the "trademark look" of Peugeot, as if all models prior to 505 strived to achieve that look, and all the models that followed tried to keep that same look... "cat eyes".

My car is not yet finished, you may notice that the front bumper doesn't fit quite right, and some lights are missing. I'm trying to convert a 1987 model, to the 1991 Argentina model, but I'm having some technical difficulty which I hope I will soon resolve. Here's the "before & after" picture.

Alfa Romeo is also popular in Argentina, but not many people can afford them, they're priced like BMWs. If you look at my Member Profile you'll see that Peugeot and Alfa Romeo are my favorite automakers, they both have the same sophisticated attitude I look for in a car.

"PSA Peugeot Citroen is not likely to return to the US for some time. The car connection recently quoted CEO Jean-Martin Folz as saying "We might some day have to look again at the possibility to move there, but we have not made the decision to go to the US - I don't even know if we ever made this decision. I can only answer by saying that we will go there some time before the year 3000." The manufacturer keeps abreast of US market developments and legislation through its liaison office in Detroit, but insiders say a return to the US is not in the company's short-term plans."

As you know, PSA is very secretive about its politic and their models are shown very late for example. If PSA return to the USA in 2008, we'll know it in late 2007

Thank you, VERY informative. I've sort of given up on Peugeot bringing new models to the U.S., I'll keep my 505, and might buy an Audi or something like that in the future. This is a picture taken today as I was trying to change the oil on my car, a hail-storm broke out and I had to wait. (god dammit)

Anyone have a newer update on Peugeot's return to the US? I understand from a good source that they are conducting some market entry research, and conducting some testing including questions to NHTSA. They also have an advertising firm in San Francisco conducting work...part of they're bigger agency group.

If anyone has a better handle on return date..I'd love to hear your info./ update...thanks

I also heard about a market survey of PSA in the USA.
Plus, futures Peugeot and Citroën are made taking in account American security tests, and not only EuroNCap and equivalent for South American, Asian, Japan and Australian markets, as for the current models.
