Transmission?
I have a 2000 GTP with 142k. Last night I was parking and when I went to shift from R to D the transmission seems to have went to neutral and is staying there. No matter what gear I try to put it in it just revs. When I put it in reverse the reverse lights come on. I can hold my foot on the gas and just push the lever up and down through the gears with no feedback, as if it wasn't even connected to anything. The park switch still works as well. I'm hoping there is a linkage cable or something that is easily replaceable.
Thanks Jeff

Re: Transmission?
Does the PRND321 indicator at the IP cluster function properly when you shift gears? The same linkage (shift cable) is used for that and gear selection. The transmission range switch and cable linkage can be checked. It is located at the top rear of the transaxle where the cable from the shifter connects. If a worse case scenario you may have to do a pan drop and see if any metal is present.

Re: Transmission?
Thanks BNaylor. Yes the indicator works fine. Everything seems to work fine except the transmission is seemingly in neutral. I was hoping its just a cable that busted as I was shifting from N to D. The trans seemed perfect and when this happened it didnt make any noise or anything just seemed to be in neutral. Thanks again for the reply. I'll be checking as soon as the weather clears.
Thanks Jeff

Re: Transmission?
The way the range selecter and PRNDL switch is set up on the trans, if the Range selecter is indicating the correct range, then the problem is internal in the trans. Hate to be the bearer of bad news. I almost wonder if your manual controll valve has come loose. If you drop the pan, also take off the side cover and have a look. You might get lucky and just have to re-seat something connectly.
