UIM/LIM Replacement Procedure.
I thought there was a full walk through on this, can someone point me in the right direction. Or possibly give some kind of Idea on Time and difficulty. I have a Chiltons, but it is kinda vague on the details.
Thanks in advance.

Re: UIM/LIM Replacement Procedure.
The UIM is straight forward, with no real surprises. I can install a new aftermarket UIM on a 3800 in about an hour/hour and a 1/2. The first time I did one, it took a little over 2 hours. The LIM isn't much more work, but make sure you have the new plastic coolant elbows you'll need that goes between the LIM (upper elbow)/timing cover (lower elbow) and tensioner bracket. Cleaning the old gaskets off the block and heads will be the biggest time consumer when doing the LIM gaskets.

Even the GM service manual is vague on the details but follow the proper torquing procedure on the UIM and LIM bolts. Torque UIM to 89 in-lb and LIM to 11 ft-lbs or 132 in-lbs. You can use the new aluminum framed LIM gaskets or Felpro plastic aftermarket. The UIM is most likely good but check for possible EGR stovepipe damage and warpage. Use new Felpro or the GM UIM gasket. On the fuel rail leave the fuel lines pressure and return connected to the rail and tie the rail up. Leave fuel injectors intact. Replace at least lower fuel injector o-rings and top if leaking noted. A few pics to give you an idea of the work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() UIM removed ![]() FelPro UIM gasket kit with throttle body gasket ![]() Felpro UIM gasket installed ![]() New Felpro LIM port and end seal gaskets. Use hi-temp RTV silicone sealant at 4 corners. Pinned gaskets.
