overtorque rocker arms

I was using a torque wrench today that I was not familiar with today and torquing down my rocker arms. I realized afterwards that I had applied about 36 inch pounds too much torque. After I torque them, I heard something like a grinding sound, or kind of like sandpaper grit rubbing on something. It was like that for about 10 minutes until I unscrewed them to release the pressure. I don't know how tough the pushrods and lifters are to withstand something like this. I just want to make sure the "grinding" noise wasn't the pushrods cracking themselves or digging into the lifters and messing them up. It's probably OK, because I figure these types of parts are pretty tough to put up with the stresses they do. Any thoughts?
