92 3500 454 No spark
Hello to all. Also I screwed up on the year. It is a 1990
I have a question. I am working on friends dually. 92 454. Non HEI ignition. We have no spark. I pulled the cap and noticed a lot of rust/deposits througout on the base plate for the module. Also, all in the "round thingy" under the rotor. I think it is called the pickup . It is covered in the same rust looking deposits. I was wondering if this could be a problem. I am in the process of getting the multimeter and check for ign voltages. If there is voltage present, do I consider the module nect. The truck was sputtering on days prior, but this morning, started fine and then just died while warming up. Never moved. Please help at your earliest convienience. Blessings to all Chuck aka ulremember

Re: 92 3500 454 No spark
I have the 90 FSM and in the diags for ignition check, it says to disconnect the 4 wire connector at the dist. If you have spark then the pickup coil is bad. Note that the engine may not run but you need to check for spark with a timing light or spark plug tester.
You can also check the resistance of the pickup coil. I found this page on Autozone http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm Fairly common issue on the TBI engines when the plastic around the pickup coil breaks. //2000CAYukon |

Re: 92 3500 454 No spark
Thank you 2000. Was the module. Took it to our local AZ, asked if they had a tester to test. Yes but it is broken was the reply. Good thing I know a young lady there and tested it for us. Tested half bad and half good the first time? Tested two more times tested bad.
The lies they tell when they are NOT qualified. Well thank you again and Blessings to you and yours! Chuck aka ulremember
