Push button 4x4

What's the main reason these stop workin? A relay switch? The explorer I just got has pushbutton and the previous owner said that it works sometimes.. Ive tried a few different times and it has yet to come on.. You need to be fully stopped before you push the button right? Any thoughts on how or what I could do to try n get it working again would be great! Thanks..

Re: Push button 4x4

There have been quite a few threads here regarding the transfer case shift motors. Try searching the forum.

Re: Push button 4x4

What I found on my "93" was the motor mechanism ( not sure what they call it ? ) underneath along the frame (drivers side) approximately under the driver, black box unit that ties to the transfer unit.
The motor in that unit was failing.
Bought a new one.
NOT THAT HARD OF A JOB TO DO !

Re: Push button 4x4

I think I may have the same issue. I hit the 4x4 Button and get nothing. No light. No indicator on the panel. but I do here a faint click in the rear of the vehicle. I can't tell if its on or not or if it doesnt work at all.

Re: Push button 4x4

As I eluded to in post #2 above, try a search on this forum. Lots of information. I did a quick search for the keyword "transfer" and got 100 hits, many of which relate to the transfer case switch/motor.

Re: Push button 4x4

Ahh, but that's where the problem lies. If people did use the search function, there wouldn't be 100 threads all dealing with the same topic. Plus, you'd have your answer by now. Sorry, I don't have time to search to forum only to copy and paste the information into another thread. I have a full time job, 2 kids at home, a few hobbies, and am currently on business travel.
