94 bonneville SSE high speed relay loacation
Hello
I have a 94 Bonneville SSE the blower stays on high all the time even when I have the car off. My guess is it is the high speed blower relay, but my question is where is it located. None of the relays under the hood seem to have the right colors wires going into them. The wires on the blower plug are purple and black and I can trace them back to the firewall. However, under the dash there is so much stuff that I can't seem to find where the wires go once in the car. I see a bank of relays on the passenger side outer wall but I have no diagram telling me if that is one of them. Thanks for you help Dale |

Re: 94 bonneville SSE high speed relay loacation
If you have automatic climate control (where you dial up the desired temp on digital display) then you have the classic blower motor module failure- which is inside the HVAC box- under the bank of relays you have mentioned- you must pull that bank back out of the way to access the module. Three 7mm screws hold it in place- it is where the blower resistor on manual systems is mounted.
If you have manual controls- where you adjust the heat with a knob or lever- then your high speed relay is at fault- which is on the relay rack you mentioned- look for the big purple wire- as one of the 5 wires on that relay.

Re: 94 bonneville SSE high speed relay loacation
It has the auto control where you set the temp. So The motor module is located outside? near the firewall?
I see a bank of fuses and relays on the passenger side on the inside under the dash. Just want to make sure before I start taking more apart. Thanks for your help Dale Last edited by Dalek; 02-15-2009 at 01:54 PM. |

Re: 94 bonneville SSE high speed relay loacation
As I told you above, the blower motor speed control module is in the HVAC case under the relay rack you saw under the hood on passenger side on firewall. The plastic fuel lines run right next to it- you'll need to pull those aside to readily access the module. You need to remove the 10mm nuts that hold the relay rack to the firewall so you can pull the rack out enough to go in behind it to access the blower module.
Sit down when you price that module..

Re: 94 bonneville SSE high speed relay loacation
hello
thanks for the pictures and the clarification I just wanted to make sure because in my 1st post I was speaking of the relay and fuse center inside the car under the dash. Yep, I know it is like $130 for that part. ouch. I was a little confused because the wiring diagram I pulled up looked a little different from what I saw once I looked at the car. I must of had the one that was for the manual controls. Is there any way to test the module to make sure it is the problem? can I do an ohm test between the leads? Thanks for all your help Dale Last edited by Dalek; 02-15-2009 at 01:55 PM. |

Re: 94 bonneville SSE high speed relay loacation
No need to test module-- that IS the way they fail- by constantly running blower motor- I have replaced about 20 in my life on those systems- they all have failed in the manner you describe- You can't go wrong on this one.
