2007 sonata

I have a 2007 sonata and sometimes the steering wheel locks up......i have tried w d -40 this is a major problem because sometimes it turns on with no problem,,,, and sometimes you just cant turn the key its stuck......tried moving the wheel stepping on the brake but the steering wheel just locks up,,,,, after 5 minutes or so it decides it going to turn over any suggestions?????????///i also read a article in the paper regarding the same problem<<<<<<<thanks

That's a real safety problem. I would take it to the dealer. Is it under warranty?

yes i spoke to a tech at hyundia he said to bring it in.....of course it does not happen all the time......thanks

A common occurence when the steering wheel is placed in a position with the wheels other than straight ahead. With the wheels in even a slightly turned position - the steerin gears are placed under tension. This causes the gearing to be in a strained state causing the steering wheel to be under stress and tranferring the stress to the key/steering wheel to under tension. To overcome the lock-up the steering wheel must be turned the same direction the wheels are turned, (if the wheels are turne right the steering wheel mus be turned right at the same time the key is turned. Doing so relieves the strain between the key and steering gearing.

It happens on all vehicles.
