96 Grand Am hard starting?

I have a 96 Grand Am 3.1 that starts and runs for about 3 seconds and quits. If I hold it to the mat it pops back and will not start. If I feather the throtle lightly it will start and as long as I keep doing this for about 20 seconds it will keep running and purr like a kitten. The thing then runs till I turn it off than the same thing happens. Weather has no effect on it either.

First off I would clean out you fuel system by using an otc product like the valvoline complete fuel system cleaner. Try it like two or three times and see if your condition improves. It could just be a clogged fuel filter or corroded injectors.

I could agree with you here but this is a problem that started suddenly. I was driving it parked and when I came out an hour later it had the symptoms. Gave me no warning at all.
