turns over but wont start--1997-4.3
I have a 1997 s-10,4.3 engine with a new fuel pump, new oil pressure switch and new battery--Truck turns over and rotates fast enough to start but just cranks and cranks. I can hear th fuel pump running. But It will start with a jump and run fine, but when i pull the cables off and try to restart it just cranks. I tested the coil and seem to have good spark. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: turns over but wont start--1997-4.3
Once you have it started with the jumper cables and remove those does it continue to run? If I understand your post, if you shut it off after starting it, it will not re-start without the jumper cables. Is that correct? May sound crazy but are your cable connections tight?
Has the Check Engine light come on? Can you get it somewhere to have codes read? |

Sounds like a battery if itll run with a jump and check the battery bolts alot of them seem to run a little short leaving about 1-2 threads actually making contact with the battery. I had to buy replacements from autozone for under $5.00. Good luck

Re: turns over but wont start--1997-4.3
Also check your fuel pressure. If it is just a bit low it can lead to hard starting. When you jump it, it may be getting extra juice to the pump to make it fire. You can also test this theory by manually priming the air intake with fuel or carb cleaner. Just because the fuel pump is new does not mean it is good. That goes for any new part, but especially the fuel pumps on these. Also, did you use a name brand, or a cheap airtex or carter pump? Those are known for short life spans and low pressure.
