No hot air
Recently bought an X type 04 2.0 automatic, which had no problems.
I went on holiday for 2 weeks over xmas and when I returned I found the battery was flat. Got a jump start and thought I'd go for a 30 mile drive to charge the battery. So far so good. Tried the car the following day and it started 1st time. Due to unforseen circumstances I didn't drive the car for a further 2 weeks and when I tried to start it the car's battery was flat again. So jumped it again and took for another drive. On this occasion I noticed that although the blower for the heater worked, there was NO hot air coming through what so ever (this is still the case & I've still got battery problems)! Do you think I've blown a fuse whilst jump starting it or is it related to the flat battery. Also, does anyone have any ideas as to why the battery keeps going flat? Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to be in the know before I get hood winked at the garage. |

Re: No hot air
How does the battery and negative cable look? It is common for these batteries to crack near the negative post, and then corrode the negative cable. This will cause all sorts of electrical problems.

Re: No hot air
New cars demand pwr for all the Bells & whistles!
An Electric fuel pump, digital dash,ECU,PCU,and all control modules. * A Security system thats ON when being parked. Time for a New battery,or you will burn up your Alternator. Just like a cell phone! Rechargeable batteries will not hold a good charge as they age. Last edited by danielsatur; 03-07-2009 at 08:38 AM. |

Re: No hot air
Thanks for the advice, got a new battery fitted and it's done the trick - heater is now working also. Do you have any advice for problems with the drivers door not responding to key fob or key. It can only be opened from the inside.

Re: No hot air
1) Check coolant level & OIL.
2) Exercise car and watch Temp & for DTC failures. This car has a dual climate control solenoid, that can lock-up when sitting around. By putting a new battery,it would of reset Dual climate control. 3) Exercise solenoid by turning on/off Heat for both Driver + passenger. 4) When car reaches operating Temp, turn off Eng. 5) Turn key to the On pos with Eng Off. 6) Turn HEAT on with fan low. This will turn on a small electric water pump to circulate coolant ,thus will give you heat for a Time when Eng is off. Emergency-HEAT if stuck in winter! 7) Get a new battery for Key fob too! It's not Transmitting far, because of Bad batteries. Last edited by danielsatur; 10-01-2009 at 05:03 PM. |

Re: No hot air
I agree with Danielsatur - with all of the electronics that must be kept powered up there is a lot of battery drain even when car is parked in the garage. I don't drive my Jag often enough to keep the battery up to peak power so I keep a Deltran Battery Tender connected in between runs which maintains the charge. I also use battery tenders (6v) on two classic cars that are not driven often and they are always ready to go. If you decide to go this route, I found best price for Deltran on Amazon.com.
